Sweet potatoes & peas are great for beginning eaters. Lamb has quite a pronounced flavour that should be interesting for your little one. Try to use a lean piece of lamb, like a minced filet. The peas give the dish a little bit of extra texture which is perfect for babies 7 months or older. If you feel like your baby is still struggling with the texture, blend the peas along with the sweet potato and slowly build your way up to a more chunky texture.
Preheat the oven at 180°C/350°F and cook the potato (whole, skin still on) for 45 minutes to an hour. You fork should go through easily when they're cooked. If you're short on time, you can also peel the potato and boil or steam it. However, cooking it in the skin preserves more vitamins.
Add the lamb to the steamer or cook it in boiling water. Make sure it's completely cooked. Since we are using minced meat, this shouldn't take very long.
Remove the skin and mash the potatoes with a fork until completely smooth.
Steam or cook the peas in boiling water for 2 minutes. When cooked, crush them with a fork.
Now blend the sweet potato and cooked lamb until smooth. Stir through the crushed peas and the olive oil.
Of course, this dish is perfect for the whole family. You can add some middle eastern seasoning to the lamb, like ras el hanout. Fry some onions, stir the cooked peas through, season with some salt and pepper and pour on top of the sweet potato.
