Can my baby eat Sweet potato

From +4 months

Are sweet potatoes healthy for children?

Sweet potatoes are naturally, you guessed it, sweet. So they're a great option to sweeten dishes in a healthy way and are even used in desserts. They contain vitamin A in the form of beta-carotene, vitamin B6, C and potassium and fiber. However, they also have a high glycemic index and glycemic load. This means you shouldn't eat them in huge quantities, in order to avoid weight gain. Rule of thumb, 1/3 potatoes for 2/3 of veggies. The same goes for white potatoes.

How to serve sweet potato

Potatoes are incredibly versatile. You can mash them, roast them, use them to make small pancakes and the list goes on. Mashed potatoes are the best option for young babies. You can switch to a chunky mash at around 9 months and after the first birthday you can serve them roasted or as oven baked fries, let your creativity run wild! You can also use sweet potatoes as a sweetener in desserts, like the sweet potato pancakes below.
