Paella for babies

Baby paella

+1 year

This classic Spanish dish is so full of flavour. You can experiment and add some other vegetables, you can add fish instead of chicken. Just do whatever feels good. In this paella we used chicken and prawns. You can add some shellfish or squid as well. Since your baby is 1 year old now, this is totally safe as long as it's cooked all the way through.

Ingredients for 4 portions

  • 1 onion

  • 1 bell pepper

  • 150 g rice (short grain paella rice called bomba or risotto rice)

  • 500 ml chicken stock or water

  • 75 g chicken, pulled or minced

  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika powder

  • 1 pinch saffron

  • 50 g peas

  • 1 lemon

  • 4 prawns

  • 8 mussels (optional)

  • 4 calamari (optional)

Preparation

  1. Chop the onion and bell pepper into small pieces.

  2. Put a pan on a medium heat with half the olive oil. Add the onion and bell pepper and cook for about 3 minutes. Add the paella rice and cook for another minute before adding the stock or water, the saffron and the paprika powder.

  3. Let the rice cook on a low heat and stir regularly to prevent it from burning. Check the pack of rice for the exact cooking time.

  4. In a separate pan, cook the chicken in some olive oil. Once cooked, do the same with the seafood. Make sure to cut it into small pieces.

  5. When the rice is cooked, add the chicken, peas and seafood. Stir it through and let it simmer on a low fire for 5 more minutes.
