Can my baby eat Honey

From +1 year

Is honey healthy for children?

Honey is one of the few foods you really cannot serve before the age of 1 year old. It may contain the clostridium botulinum spores that can cause botulism. Infection is rare but if a baby gets infected the consequences can be very severe. The spores are heat resistant which means you can't give honey in baked goods or cereals either.

How to serve honey

After your baby turns 1 you can use honey in both warm and cold foods and drinks. Add some honey to yoghurt or to a homemade ice tea. You can also use it in baked goods or even to sweeten some savoury dishes.
