Can my baby eat Coconut

From +6 months

Is coconut healthy for children?

Coconut is safe to give to your baby in a finely grated or blended form. You can also use coconut milk in your food, such as curries. The flesh of a coconut is high in fat and fiber, so it will give a lot of energy. It is not necessarily rich in vitamins but it is in essential minerals, such as manganese, copper, iron and selenium.

How to serve coconut

You can steam the flesh of a coconut to make it much softer for your baby to eat. You can serve it as a finger food, taking into account the appropriate finger food sizes for your baby's age. You can also cover a finger food in shredded coconut, for example a piece of mango. Coconut milk can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes.
