From +6 months

Common allergen:

Soy

Is tofu healthy for children?

Tofu, which is made from soy, contains a lot of the nutrients your baby needs, especially in the first year of fast growing. It's an energy rich food since it contains plenty of healthy fats. It's also a good source of protein, containing all essential amino-acids. It's a plant-based source of iron and calcium, which are essential for your baby's growth and development and it is related to various other health benefits. Soy is a common food allergen so start with small quantities and work your way up.

How to serve tofu

Tofu comes in different varieties, varying in firmness. Silken tofu, a very soft tofu, can be used in smoothies or desserts. Its texture is very similar to cream cheese, so you can use it as a vegan friendly alternative. Regular tofu is firmer and can be steamed, sautéed, crumbled or cut into sticks as a finger food, taking into account appropriate finger food sizes for your baby's age.
